INTRODUCTION
------------

RAEdit is the ultimate editor for Command and Conquer: Red Alert.
With RAEdit, you can easily edit all of the vehicles, infantry,
structures, weapons and projectiles in Red Alert. With RAEdit,
  the possibilities are endless!

RAEdit allows you to edit the game by changing the various properties of
each of the unit types in the game. Each unit type has it's own unique
set of properties that you can easily edit. When you are done editing,
save your changes and then start Red Alert. That's all there is to it!

WHAT'S NEW IN VERSION 2.0
-------------------------

RAEdit 2.0 has been improved a lot since RAEdit 1.0, the original public
release version. Here's what you'll find new in RAEdit 2.0.

  *  A newly-enhanced interface.
  * The ability to edit the weapon types in Red Alert.
  * The ability to edit the projectile types in Red Alert.
  * The ability to quickly launch both Red Alert DOS and Red Alert Win95.
  * Fixed the bug with resetting singular unit defaults.
  * Fixed the bug with resetting all unit defaults.
  * Fixed the bug that made RAEdit crash when switching between units.
  * Added a Red Alert Unlimited Money Cheat.

USING RAEDIT - EDITING UNITS
----------------------------

Before you get started with editing units, you should know a little bit
  about each unit type.

There are a total of five unit types that you can edit using RAEdit:

VEHICLES: These consist of all the ground-based vehicles, naval units and
aircraft in Red Alert such as Heavy Tanks, Mammoth Tanks and Rangers.

INFANTRY: These consist of all the soldiers and civilians in Red Alert
such as Rifle Soldiers, Einstein and Tanya.

STRUCTURES: These consist of all the buildings in Red Alert such as Tesla
  Coils, Ore Refineries and Barracks.

WEAPONS: These consist of all the weapons that the vehicles, infantry and
structures can be equipped with such as SAM Missiles, Turret Cannons and
  Dragon Rockets.

PROJECTILES: These consist of the actual object fired from a particular
weapon such as Nuclear Warheads, Homing Missiles and Bomblets.

Each unit type has it's own unique set of properties that you can edit.
For example: Grenadiers use grenades as their weapon. That property
is the Grenadier's Primary Weapon. If you wanted to change the Grenadier's
weapon to a Hand-held Flamethrower, you could do that by changing the
Grenadier's Primary Weapon property to the Hand-Held Flamethrower instead
  of Grenades.

To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Select the Infantry Unit Type by clicking on "Infantry" at the bottom
of the screen or by choosing Infantry from the Unit menu.

  2. Select the Grenadier by clicking on "Grenadier" at the top part of
      the screen.

  3. Next to where it says "Primary Weapon", click on "Grenades". A list
      will appear.

  4. Scroll down the list until you see "Hand-held Flamethrower" and then
      click on it.

  5. Select "Save Changes" from the File menu and choose "Yes" to save.

That's it! You have successfully changed the Grenadier's weapon type from
Grenades to the Hand-held Flamethrower. Now Grenadier's will act much like
the Flamethrower soldiers, shooting flame instead of throwing grenades.

Here's another example. If you wanted to change the amount of hit points
that the Mammoth Tank has from 600 to 1000, you would follow these steps:

  1. Select the Vehicle Unit Type by clicking on "Vehicle" at the bottom
of the screen or by choosing Vehicle from the Unit menu.

  2. Select the Mammoth Tank by clicking on "Mammoth Tank" at the top part
      of the screen.

  3. Next to where it says "Hit Points", click in the box that says 600.

  4. Backspace over the 600 and type in 1000.

  5. Select "Save Changes" from the File menu and choose "Yes" to save.

You have successfully changed the Mammoth Tank's hit points from 600 to
1000. Now the Mammoth Tank has 1000 hit points and of course, will be
  much harder to destroy.

Some of the properties are a bit confusing because of their names. To
find out what a property is, move your mouse over the name of the property.
At the bottom of the screen, a description of the property will appear.
For example, if you want to find out what the "Supress" property is, you
would move the mouse over the words "Supress".

Pretty easy right? You can edit all other unit types in Red Alert the
same way you did with the Grenadier and Mammoth Tank examples above.

SAVING YOUR CHANGES
-------------------

After you make the changes you want, you can save them by choosing
"Save Changes" from the File menu or by right-clicking on any black portion
of the screen and choosing "Save" from the popup-menu. You will be given
a prompt confirming whether or not you want to save the changes you made
  after all.

RESETTING VALUES
----------------

If you want to reset a single property for a certain unit back to its
original value, right-click on the name of the property you want to reset
back to its default value. For example: You changed the value of the
V2 Rocket's Owner to Allies and you want to get it back to the default
value of Soviet, you would right-click on the words "Owner" and the value
  would be reset.

If you want to reset all the default values for a certain unit, choose
the "Current Unit Defaults" option from the Reset menu. You can also do
this by right-clicking the mouse on any black portion of the screen.
This will give you a popup-menu with the "Reset Unit" option.

If you want to reset the default values for all the units in Red Alert,
choose the "All Unit Defaults" option from the Reset menu. RAEdit will
restart itself in order for the changes to take place.

LAUNCHING RED ALERT
-------------------

After you save changes, you can quickly launch either Red Alert DOS or
Red Alert Windows 95 to test whether your changes work or not.

If you want to launch Red Alert DOS, choose "Red Alert DOS" from the
  Launch menu.

If you want to launch Red Alert Windows 95, choose "Red Alert Win95" from
  the Launch menu.

DISTRIBUTING YOUR CHANGES
-------------------------

If you want to distribute the changes you made to Red Alert so that others
can use them, all you have to do is distribute the RULES.INI file located
  in your Red Alert directory.

When distributing any files changed with RAEdit, you should include a text
file with your name, the changes you made to the game and also place
a message such as "Created with RAEdit 2.0." somewhere in the text file.
These are only suggestions, so you are not required to do this, but it
  is recommended that you do.

UNLIMITED MONEY CHEAT
---------------------

RAEdit includes a cheat for both Red Alert DOS and Red Alert Win95.
The cheat patches Red Alert so that you will have an unlimited amount of
money for every mission. The number of credits you have will be 32767
and will never change no matter what you build. :)

To use the Unlimited Money Cheat, run RAEMONEY.EXE from within your Red
Alert directory. The Unlimited Money Cheat is a DOS program, but you
can run it from within Windows or Windows 95 as well as DOS.

After you run RAEMONEY.EXE, you will be presented with 5 different menu
  choices:

  (1) Patch Red Alert DOS
  (2) Patch Red Alert Win95
  (3) Undo Red Alert DOS Patch
  (4) Undo Red Alert Win95 Patch
  (5) Exit

Option 1 turns on the money cheat for Red Alert DOS. Option 2 turns on
the money cheat for Red Alert Win95. Option 3 turns the money cheat for
Red Alert DOS off. Option 4 turns the money cheat for Red Alert Win95
off and option 5 exits the program.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT RAEDIT
-------------------------------------

  1. RAEdit 2.0 was tested with both the DOS and Windows 95 versions of
the U.S / English Red Alert. RAEdit was not tested with any other
version of Red Alert and probably will not work correctly with
versions that are different than those tested.

  2. If you use RAEdit to cheat in multi-player games of Red Alert
(other than the skirmish mode), you will receive an "Out of sync."
error message. Westwood Studios has designed the game so no one can
cheat in non-skirmish multi-player games. If you want to play a
multi-player game of Red Alert with your new configuration made with
RAEdit, all players must have the same RULES.INI installed in order
      for the game to work.

  3. If you want to play a non-skirmish multi-player game of Red Alert with
the original configuration, you must first delete the RULES.INI file
from your Red Alert directory or rename the file, otherwise you will
get an "Out of Sync." error message.

  4. Just because you can edit something, doesn't mean it is wise to do.
RAEdit does not restrict the length of the values you enter for any
particular unit. If you enter large numbers for certain properties,
Red Alert may act strangely. For example, if you enter a value of
9999 for the speed of a unit, the unit will go crazy and bounce around
the screen. For reasons like this, you should keep the values of a
      property reasonable. :)

  5. You CANNOT edit the original RULES.INI with RAEdit. RAEdit uses it's
own special version of the RULES.INI. All the values included with
RAEdit's RULES.INI are the same as the original RULES.INI, so there
      is no need to worry.

  6. RAEdit will fail to operate if manual changes to the RULES.INI are
made. Because of this, you should not comment the RULES.INI, add
extra lines etc. The only thing you can change manually that will not
affect RAEdit's performance is a value for a property. Any other
changes, no matter how minor you think they are will make RAEdit act
strangely or completely fail to operate.

  7. RAEdit was not designed by Westwood Studios Inc. and is not supported
by them in any way. Please do not e-mail Westwood Studios Inc.
asking questions about RAEdit. You should address any messages
concerning RAEdit to Innovative Tech only.

OBTAINING UPGRADES FOR RAEDIT
-----------------------------

The latest shareware version of RAEdit will always be available at the
  Official RAEdit Site at http://members.aol.com/ralertedit.

If you are a registered user of RAEdit, you are entitled to unlimited FREE
upgrades. When RAEdit has been updated, you will receive the updated
version the same way you received the original version. To upgrade,
simply overwrite the existing RAEdit files in your Red Alert directory
  and your upgrade is complete.

TROUBLESHOOTING
---------------

Below is a list of problems you may encounter with RAEdit, and the possible
  solutions for them:

Q: When I load RAEdit, it says "Missing DLL." What do I need to fix this?

A: This error is caused when you do not have the file VBRUN300.DLL. This
file can be obtained at http://members.aol.com/ralertedit, the official
      WWW site for RAEdit.

Q: The changes I made to Red Alert using RAEdit do not work. What can I
      do to fix this?

A: You need to install RAEdit into your Red Alert directory in order for
the changes you make to take effect.

Q: When I load RAEdit, it gives me an "Entry not found." error message.
What can I do to fix this?

A: The RULES.INI may be corrupted, or you may not have the U.S / English
version of Red Alert. RAEdit will not work with the German version of
      Red Alert.

Q: The RAEdit screen is garbled when I load it. What can I do to fix
      this?

A: RAEdit was designed in 640 x 480 at 256 colors. If Windows is
configured for a resolution other than 640 x 480, this is probably
the problem. Set the resolution to 640 x 480 at 256 colors and the
      problem should be fixed.

Q: The Unlimited Money Cheat does not work properly. What can I do to
      fix this?

A: The Unlimited Money Cheat will only work if it is in your Red Alert
directory and if your GAME.DAT (for RA DOS) and RA95.EXE (for RA Win95)
are in your Red Alert directory and are intact.

If you encounter a problem that you could not resolve, you should contact
Innovative Tech. (See the CONTACTING INNOVATIVE TECH section below.)
